Specialization on electrical wiring of buildings, machines and stationary is done by an electrician. Electricians are equipped with the knowledge and skill of handling electrical wiring of buildings, stationery and machinery. The course done by an electrician is electrical engineering which he applies in solving electrical related issues. Having a high school diploma or an equivalent degree is what makes up an electrician.
A high school diploma includes the following programs in order to be an electrician and they are fundamental, practical courses and physical science. In order to be fully groomed electrician then the focus areas such as; physical science will require one to have an understanding on physics of electrical current while fundamental will require one to be good in algebra and practical courses will offer courses such as automotive mechanics, electronics wood shop need to advocate for this. Vocational programs and apprenticeship are followed after a high school diploma. A license is applied by an electrician after completing an apprenticeship or vocational program.
During application of a license the following is required; test scores that demonstrate knowledge of NEC and state building codes, relevant fees, proof of having the required amount of experience in electrical trade and proof of apprenticeship completion. An electrician’s role and responsibilities are based on the area of specialization. One of the responsibilities of an electrician is forming electrical circuits by connecting electrical wires to components and fixtures and testing completed circuit.
Another role of an electrician is planning the electrical system for new buildings including the best position for electrical outlets, heating outlets, ventilation systems and light fixtures. New and existing buildings are installed wiring, lighting and control systems which is in accordance with municipal codes as the other role of electricians. Reading and interpretation of architect blueprints, circuit diagrams and other technical documents is also done by an electrician.
Wiring of ships, mobile platforms, data, cable and airplanes are the various areas in which electricians specialize in. Most courses can be specialized further for example electrical engineering. The work load of electricians is quite high and thus need to be actually available at all times. Activities that are required by an electrician’s presence is lifting of supplies, climbing ladders and lifting tools. Electricians when carrying out their daily work activities use various positions such as kneeling, squatting and bending.
Intellectual ability, interpersonal skills, knowledge of safety codes, character traits and ethics and finally business ethics these are some of the factors that are considered when choosing an electrician. Some skills are required in business understanding and they include; time management, customer service and personal service, clerical abilities and working with a team or people management. As for interpersonal skills the following are required; active listening, communication skills, observation skills and empathy and instructing.
