Ceramics and Châteaus: Discover Genteel Gien

Ceramics and Châteaus: Discover Genteel Gien

There’s little doubt that an essential element of all barge holidays in France is being able to dock at the myriad towns and villages that line the waterways and entice visitors in with their charms. As part of the itinerary of the hotel barge Renaissance, guests will be able to see the sights of Gien, renowned for its pottery and royal château.
Finding your Bearings

Prior to diving into the town, it is well worth disembarking on the south bank to take in the attractions of Gien all at once: from this vantage point, you can savour the spectacle of the river as it passes below the eighteenth-century bridge, under the watchful gaze of the sixteenth-century château.

Not even the loss of much of Gien’s historic buildings during World War II can detract from the pleasant view. Indeed, the painstaking and very convincing post-war reconstruction has done much to bury these ghosts of the past.

Marvel at Gien’s Pottery

Cultural exploration is an integral part of our barge holidays. In France, there are always abundant opportunities for the discerning traveller to discover regional produce, and Gien is no exception. The town has crafted a fine reputation for the calibre of its pottery, in particular for its Faïence pottery. Production began when Thomas Hall, an Englishman from Stoke-on-Trent who was intent on bringing high-quality English earthenware to France, established a factory in 1821.

In deciding to base his enterprise in Gien, Hall chose wisely, capitalising on the town’s physical amenities. The Sologne forest, which is in close proximity to Gien, provided a ready source of wood for the kilns. What’s more, the Loire granted access to markets throughout France (until water travel was superseded by the railways), in addition to providing sand and water for making clay.

While production continues to this day, the factory has also taken on a new guise as a museum dedicated to telling the story of the industry and shedding light on the making of these exquisite ceramics.

A Château Fit for Kings and Queens

There’s one more attraction that certainly merits a visit before you return to the hotel barge. Holidays in France are rarely complete without sojourning for a while at a château, and Gien’s has certainly welcomed its fair share of royal visitors. This elegant edifice was constructed for the use of Anne de Beaujeu, the daughter of Louis XI, in the final years of the fifteenth century. Future guests included Henri II and his wife Catherine de Médici, as well as Louis XIV, the famous ‘Sun King’.

Despite being bombed during World War II, the château was successfully restored. Since 1952, it’s housed a museum, which is dedicated to the most royal of pastimes: hunting. Through paintings, sculptures and an array of weapons and trophies from successful forays, the museum details how hunting and its depiction has developed through the centuries.

5 Issues Authors Run Into That Require Legal Support

The art of writing as a career is a free expression of your thoughts, beliefs, experiences, and imagination for a profit.

However, as liberal as this profession may seem, it still has to play by the rules.

Writers can sometimes find themselves in need of legal support if they are not aware of the industry’s general do’s and don’ts.

Here Are 5 Issues Authors May Need Legal Support to Address
1. Copyright Issues

The best way to avoid copyright is to only publish your own work, but what about when you need something to support your writing?

This may be an image or a fact to add some credibility to the article or book you are working on. Always reach out to the source you want to cite.

When in doubt, use a trusted third party or practice Fair Use.

Instead of finding a random image from a search engine, sign up for a stock image or hire a photographer to your own private stock.

2. Trademark Infringement

Trademark infringement may unintentionally cause you to need legal support. It is the unauthorized use of a trademark or brand in connection to something which may cause confusion.

Have you ever told someone to “just Google” a random fact, or “use a Kleenex” to blow their nose? This may be fine for the trade infringement.

If you are ever writing about a real-life situation in which someone is using a brand, try to create a fictional alternative to avoid needing legal support.

3. Privacy Rights

Another thing to be cautious about when relating true stories is the respect for privacy protection.

The United States has specific rights about disclosing another person’s private information such as medical or financial situations. Also, consider personal matters which may be considered sensitive or embarrassing.

Ask yourself if you are the subject how it would feel to have your private business counsel before publishing.

4. Contract Challenges

When working with a publisher, always double check the contract negotiations and rights.

Are you signing away movie and television rights? How much control will you have in the editing process before the final draft is confirmed?

The best way to avoid needing legal support is to have a consistent, open line of communication with publishers.

When both parties understand submission deadlines, revision guidelines, and updating rights, the smoother the writing process becomes.

5. Registration of Your Copyright

Copyright exists as soon as you put something out in the world. Whether it be as a freelance writer, online blogger, or published author, the moment you put your name on it, it’s yours.

You reserve the right to authorize others to use your words and information. However, sometimes copyright issues arise.

The best way to protect your writing is to register your copyright. This may require some legal funding, but it is well worth the investment; it’s like insurance for your work.

Discover Ireland’s Grand Canal on a Barge Cruise

Discover Ireland’s Grand Canal on a Barge Cruise

For your next holiday, take a barge cruise down the Grand Canal and travel from Dublin to Shannon to discover all Ireland has to offer. You can admire the gorgeous green countryside and delightful little cottages that line the waterway, while diving into its interesting and intricate history as a commercial route which allowed the surrounding towns to prosper.
Length and Route

The Grand Canal in Ireland extends for 117 kilometres. Passing through Leinster, it flows from Ringsend in Dublin to the Shannon Harbour in County Offaly. This is the main route, built to connect the capital city with the country’s midlands. The waterway does also have another run that spreads from Lowtown in Couty Kildare to the River Barrow in Athy. There are also various branches that link up with four other towns, though it’s worth mentioning that your barge cruise will probably stick to the main route.

Along the way, you can enjoy beautiful views of Irish towns and villages with their charming little cottages, while admiring the many bridges that arch over the smooth water. The fauna and flora also remain untouched, with grassy towpaths and side roads lining the waterway and adding to the iconic Irish countryside feel.

History of the Grand Canal

Though the canal was closed to commercial traffic in the mid-twentieth century, it has since been restored to its former glory and regularly welcomes a variety of boats and barge cruises. It still features the original 43 locks, five of which are, from an engineering point of view, particularly interesting as they are double locks. Back in the day, these would have allowed the traffic to move faster as two boats can pass at once and there’s more chance of reaching a lock that’s in your favour. The lock-keepers’ cottages have also been refurbished to celebrate the history of this canal…

Relationship with The Guinness Factory

…And what a history it is! The Grand Canal played a crucial role in the creation and development of the Guinness factory. In 1759, two years after the construction of the canal began, Arthur Guinness founded his famous brewery. Thanks to the waterway, he could transport heavy loads of the raw materials he needed far more cheaply and effectively than by road. It was also an ideal way of exporting his finished product. When you pass through the eighth lock on a barge cruise, keep your eyes peeled for the Guinness filter beds which are still used by Arthur’s company today.

Impact of the Famine

In the first half of the nineteenth century, Ireland’s economy began to fail. As people lost their jobs, the Commission for Public Works set them to work on creating the canal. This was a successful scheme until the potato crops failed and the Great Famine broke out. Work had to be halted as labour became scarce. Eventually, trade and commerce on the canal declined, particularly as the construction of the railroads had just started.

By the 1980s, the Grand Canal had become something of a dumping ground. Thankfully, in 1986 it received a funding injection that sought to rejuvenate the canal and restore it to its former glory. Today boat traffic from barge cruises has increased and thousands are able to enjoy this historic waterway.

Unique Facts About the Wildlife of Galapagos

Unique Facts About the Wildlife of Galapagos

Most nature lovers who embark on wildlife holidays in Galapagos are familiar with the archipelago’s most iconic wildlife species, which include the Giant Tortoise, the Lava Lizard, the Marine Iguana, the Galapagos Sea Lion and the Blue-Footed Booby.
But while the wildlife has been studied and documented extensively, from Darwin’s first forays to the scientists who actively work to ensure its conservation into modern times, there are also some lesser-known facts about these wonderfully unique species. For anyone planning wildlife holidays in Galapagos, knowing a few of these before the trip may add another dimension to an already fascinating encounter.

Did You Know?

• The Marine Iguanas found in abundance throughout the archipelago are the world’s only species of marine lizard. The white appearance often seen around their faces is caused by the expulsion of salt from specially adapted glands in their nostrils, which dries and creates a “wig” effect.

• The Galapagos Penguin is the smallest in the world and the only one found north of the Equator. The combination of the cold waters of the Humboldt and Cromwell ocean currents mean it is able to survive in the warmer climate.

• With an average life span of well over a century, the Giant Tortoise lives longer than almost any other vertebrate on the planet. They continue to grow for up to 40 years and can reach a length of over 1.5m and a weight of up to 250kg.

• The most common of all the mammals throughout the islands is the sea lion. The chance to swim and snorkel amongst the curious sea lions is also one of the most sought-after encounters on wildlife holidays in Galapagos. Particularly large colonies are found on Santa Cruz, Isabela and Espanola.

• The Green Sea Turtle found in the waters around the archipelago is a species so old it has been around since before the time of the dinosaurs.

• There are five species of snakes and all of them are endemic to the dry zones of certain islands – although some islands have none. All the species are relatively small (under a metre) and are known as “racers”, due to their ability to move extremely fast. Their only natural predator is the Galapagos Hawk.

• There are four species of boobies that make the islands home. The Blue-footed Booby is renowned for its unique mating dance, where it lifts its feet and wave them in the air, appearing to “dance”, and the Red-footed Booby is the only one to make its nest in the trees and not the ground. The Nazcar Booby is the largest species, while the Masked Booby lives mainly out in the open ocean, returning to land only to breed.

• The Waved Albatross mates for life. There are over 12,000 breeding pairs on the archipelago, which represents the majority of its global population. While the birds depart the islands from December to April, they return to the same place and the same partner every year to breed.

• The term “Darwin’s Finches” actually refers to 15 different species of finches. While their bodies and colouring make them similar in appearance, each has a distinctly different, specially adapted beak.

Wildlife holidays in Galapagos offer a privileged opportunity for nature lovers to experience a truly once-in-a-lifetime encounter with some of the most incredible and unique animals on Earth. And, in this remote and beautiful part of the planet, researchers and naturalists are still learning just how astounding many of them really are. Author Plate

10 Super Cool Super Business Cards

Regardless of the prevalence of digital communication in sales and marketing, there is still a place to print business cards.

They are still good at landing clients and building brand awareness.

Whether you have a restaurant and your business card stuck to a refrigerator or you are a large corporate service provider whose business cards faint at conferences, this remains an important tool for entrepreneurs.

However, it can sometimes feel like all business cards look (and feel!) The same.

So we’ve collected 10 great ideas you can take to jazz up your business cards in a cool, conventional style.

Read on

1. Business cards pop-ups
There are many interpretations of this popular business card.

The premise is simple. To stand out from the crowd, sometimes the best thing to do is really stand out, even if it means jumping on the table!

By using 3D space more effectively, this business card lets you dominate the space where there may be dozens (or hundreds!) Of competitors. Reactor business cards, for example, jump off the table and call attention.

2. Tabbed business cards
Some businesses end up with vanilla business cards not because they do not have anything to say, but because they talk too much!

For example, if you’re a full-service agent, what do you put in your business card? Creative direction Strategy? Branding? SEO digital ads? The service is so vast most people end up just putting their contact info.

But Diesel Design develops cards with tabs, like Google Chrome, which allows more space for a thorough overview of the services they provide.

3. Business card LEGO man
Sometimes simple cardboard cards are not enough.

So what some businesses do is HOW beyond the box.

They get LEGO people tailor-made for their business cards.

Complete models that look like the people who share them, they have all the important info printed right in their chests.

For a great talking point and something definitely memorable, it’s hard to see past LEGO business cards.

4. Edible business cards
What lacks this longevity, they are more than just a novelty factor. The business card is a fully printed business card that doubles as a delicious chocolate wrapper. And once the chocolates are gone, you have all the info you need to buy and buy more.

5. Functional business cards
Sometimes, less important to be funny then it should be functional.

That’s what inspires a whole choice of useful business cards.

A bicycle company from British Columbia, Canada developed a double metal nameplate as a multipurpose bicycle tool.

Another company, Bon Vivant, a fancy cheese shop in Brazil, develops a business card you suspect, grated cheese!

Mini crater cheese, perfect for when you are snacking on their delicious products.

6. 3D business cards
This is similar to the pop-up namecard we mentioned earlier, but with a more aggressive pop.

For example, Bentply, a furniture store in London, has a business card that can bend into a mini seat made for them. And with those copycat prints, they really look like crooked plywood chairs.

7. RFID business cards
While some tactics – like popping up from a page or wrapping business cards around a piece of chocolate – are great, sometimes these simple business cards require a technology upgrade.

And this is called a business card with RFID.

With RFID, you can take online paperwork and feed your customers directly to your overall digital marketing strategy, with complete tracking capabilities from the start.

It gives you the option to send customers to the website, send them a welcome email, or even just share your app or contact info with them. While they are still in the early stages, an RFID card stand can be the next big thing in the world of classic business card design.

8. QR-enabled business cards
Other digital options, QR-enabled cards have many of the same benefits as RFID cards but require little input from users.

Some businesses choose to simply enter the QR code on their standard business card, linked to their website or a dedicated landing page for that lead (for example you may be printing special cards with unique QR codes for large conferences).

Other companies choose a slightly easier approach, just following the QR code and nothing else, forcing potential customers into their digital channels.

Regardless of what works for your business, QR codes are the best way to build engagements online.

9. Different business cards
For most people, kar

Find Out What is Fashion Marketing So You Can Reduce Competition

The fashion industry is huge, generating $ 1 trillion in gross revenue annually.

Yes, it’s “trillion” with “t.”

So what is fashion marketing? This is the range you need to separate your product from competition and succeed in the world’s harshest retail industry.

Here are some tips to help you get started and gain excellence in the competition.

Have Great Products and Know Your Niche
It all starts here right?

Many people sell underwear, so if you sell underwear, it’s better to have something that sets it apart from the competition.

Better materials A good story. Well suited.

Whatever the product, you need to understand exactly what you are selling and how it fits the competition – so do your research before you develop your marketing plan.

It does not matter if you ask people to “Click Here” to buy grillz or sell winter parka. All successful fashion marketing begins with knowledge of products and research in the marketplace.

That’s the first task of your newly printed marketing team (though it’s just you!).

Social Media Is Your Friend
When looking for sterling examples of what is fashion marketing, look no further than social media.

Facebook. Instagram. Pinterest. Even Snapchat.

The fashion industry leads almost all industries when it comes to experimenting with social media.

After all, social media has become increasingly visual and fashion is nothing but the first picture-industry. Studies have shown that completely one out of three consumers have purchased clothing items after viewing them on Instagram.

If you hate social media, sorry – it’s important you learn to love him or hire someone who does it.

Find Great Influencer in Your Niche
Speaking of people who turn to social media like a proverbial fish to water, influencer marketers have become a big part of what is marketed in fashion by 2017.

What is that?

Simply put, influencers marketing is when a company or brand contracts with someone who has an established and large social media presence in their target niche to promote a product.

This is basically a celebrity endorsement for the 21st century.

How important is it? More than six in 10 fashion companies make influencers as part of their marketing strategy in 2016, with another 21 percent planning to incorporate it in 2017.

Do not Forget Your Land Game
Social media is good to talk about because it can be accessed anywhere, but the soul of fashion marketing is still on the ground.

So go to trade shows, fashion shows, and make connections.

Show off your collection. Do a trunk show. Co-sponsored an event.

The key is preparing your digital marketing game so that when you face the community with the product, the conversation can continue in the digital space with websites, email, social media, and so on.

Land games are an opportunity for people who find you through digital space to gain tactile experience – viewing their products, touching products – as well as opportunities for those who have seen the product engage in ongoing dialogue with the brand before they buy.

What is Marketing Mode? It’s up to you
With so much competition, the most important thing is to stand out. Take a risk.

Some brands do their marketing via e-mail only. Some do great stunts.

Others just stand by their great products, tour the country performing, and rely on word of mouth.

After all, you need a good photo.

A nice picture, however, says a thousand words. And that means dollars.

Fibromyalgia is a very frustrating condition to stay with because there is no change that occurs in a person’s appearance to show that they are sick.

Instead, fibrous sufferers must work through the pain and do what they can to control it.

Unfortunately, the medical field does not respond much to the cause of fibromyalgia and how to help it. There are only a few drugs out there at the moment and they are not known for working well.

It is time for care to pursue the severity of this condition, and that is why everyone with fibromyalgia should look into what CBD can do for them.

How can help sufferers fibromyalgia?
With so many states currently validating marijuana and its various forms, it is true that there is not much scientific evidence to suggest that CBD oil helps the occurrence of fibromyalgia.

Then again, fibromyalgia is a disease that is not actually understood by the medical!

The truth is that many people say that consuming CBD oil has helped live more comfortably.

CBD oil helps ease the pain felt by fibro patients by increasing the level of “endocannabinoids” in our bodies. It turns out that endocannabinoids are our body’s natural way to relieve pain and reduce inflammation, and CBD oil only increases these benefits!
