The level of interest your story is able to generate comes down to the point of view you choose to use. This is important especially if you wish for them to keep reading your works of fiction. The point of view is what tells of the tone of the book. The reader shall get a perspective from which they shall observe as the story as it unfolds. You therefore need to know about what points of view you are at liberty to use in your story. You need to also understand more about shifts in these point of view.
There is the first person point of view, in which the story is told through a character’s emotions, senses and internal thoughts. There is a limitation to the application of certain pronouns and verbs. You will notice the use of the pronoun I quite a lot. There is no other tense for the verbs except the present.
In the second person point of view, only the pronoun You comes into play. The readers may have a hard time getting into the mood of the story, as there is some distance created between the story and them.
There is the third person point of view, in which there is the use of the pronouns He and She. The verbs shall be in past tense. When it is used alone it shall be easy for the readers to feel detached. This is because the reader has to find out more only through the author’s eyes, and not much from the characters.
In the third person limited point of view, there is a bit of the third person, and a bit of the first person. The author shall thus use the first person character’s five senses, emotions and internal thoughts with the third person perspective, to tell the story through their narration. In this style, the main character’s take on the world is used to drive the author’s narration.
You shall also find the shifting points of view phenomena which has some wonderful application. It can show you the emotions, thoughts and five senses of those who see through it. You can see it in the example of the description of what is happening at a party. There shall be the description of the different ways in which people are enjoying themselves. Then there is some commotion, and a person collapses. We then see the main character how happens to be a law enforcement officer step up to the scene. What happens thereafter is observes through their eyes. We can feel their emotions and reactions to the tragedy. We hear their thoughts as they vow to find out what happened here. Works of fiction would not survive without such shifts. They lead to better unsdd6aisng if the story.
